Penn became famous because of his books about the Quaker religion. His father became ill during that time when Penn was arrested but still left William a large fortune when he died. Later on in Penn’s life he asked the king of England if he could have a charter of land so he could start a colony in the new world. The King said yes and made the name of the colony Pennsylvania in honor of Williams’s father. The colony was a great success! It grew a lot because it had religious freedom. William died on July 30, 1718 in Berkshire, England.

  2. The Salem Witch Trials was where people were accused of being witches. If someone was accused of being a witch they would go through trials to see if that person was a witch. The trials were the touch test where if someone having a fit they would calm down if they touched a witch, confession by dunking where they would dunk a person until they confessed that they were a witch, and Lord’s Prayer where if a person couldn’t say they lord’s prayer without a mistake then they were a witch. There are also others like if they see a witch in their dreams, they would have heavy stones put on them until they confessed, they would tie the person up and throw then in a lake if they flouted then they were a witch and if they didn’t they would drown. The article also says that around 20 people died and that 150 or so were imprisoned.
In the article about women’s clothing it said how women wore many different layers of clothing to make the gown on the top layer. They wore the shift which is like underwear, the stay, that helps give the women good posture, the stockings which were socks, the petticoat that is similar to a skirt, and then finally the gown. The article also said that women wore different kinds of hats, the cap, the hat, and the mob cap or bonnet. Girls start to dress like the women around the ages 5 and 6.
The article on food and cooking talked about what kinds of food the colonists ate and how the cooked. The colonists ate meat such as turkey, deer, rabbits, ducks and geese. They fished to get food and they would get things like salmon, cod, flounder, trout, clams, halibut, and lobsters. The colonists would farm and they would grow wheat, corn, beans, oats, pumpkins, and barley. During winter they would salt or smoke meat to preserve it and in colder colonies they might leave food outside covered in snow during the winter.
