We Have Nothing to Fear, But Fear Itself!
"We have nothing to fear but fear itself!" - Franklin Delano Roosevelt
This is a very famous quote made by Franklin Delano Roosevelt during his inaugural speech.
Take the time to read more about FDR (as he is also know) from the link below and tell me in the comments section....What do you think that he meant by this? Why do you think it is an important thing to say to an entire country?
FDR bio
I think he means don’t be scared of things, only be scared of being scared. That or he means only fear the un-known.
ReplyDeleteI think it’s important for him to say this to the entire country because it tells everyone to not worry and don’t fear the future, only fear being scared.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt was a very important president. He was elected in 1933 as our 32d president. He helped our country through the great depression when people were unemployed and people didn’t make enough money to care for themselves and their children. One of the first quotes he said was at his inaugural speech the quote was ‘’We Have Nothing to Fear, But Fear Itself!’’ I think the quote symbolizes how in the great depression people were depressed and lonely so he basically went out and said we don’t need to be afraid we will get through this very hard time in our lives, we need to keep going with big smiles on our faces and live life to the fullest until we can find a way out of this hard place. The fear is just all in your mind your minds is thinking fear when it is not truly there if you won’t think it won’t happen or haunt you. I think this is greatly important to say to a country of people who think it’s never going to get better because they need a voice to say what’s going on and what’s going to happen. People need to be reassured that it will be okay and all right and that we won’t be depressed for much longer. He is saying to not be scared and act like there is no hope he is saying that the fear inside of you should be gone and the fear should be scared by you and the positive person you truly are because nobody can drag your happiness and hope to the ground and step all over it. I enjoy this president and this quote and hop to learn other ones and dig further into the president’s background and other life accomplishments.
ReplyDeleteI think that what Franklin Roosevelt meant when he said “we have nothing to fear but fear itself” he means that the only thing to be scared of is being scared. I think that he was trying to say don’t be scared. I think that it is important to say this to an entire country because they were in the great depression and they had no money. He doesn’t want people to be scared because they are poor.
ReplyDeleteWe have nothing to fear but fear itself means I can help you through these hard times but I can’t help stop your worries or fear. This would be good to say to the whole country because they were in the great depression where people were unemployed and people had little money.
ReplyDeleteI think what Franklin D. Roosevelt meant by his famous quote “We have nothing to fear, but fear itself” means that if something that isn’t real, you shouldn’t be afraid of it. I think he said it in front of the whole country because he wanted the people to forget about all the things they don’t have because of The Great Depression and live a more happy life. I would assume anyone who heard that speech in real life would feel like nothing in their heads would be worth fearing and ready to take on anything that stopped them from being happy.
ReplyDeleteI think “you have nothing to fear, but fear itself” means we we have nothing be afraid of anything except for being scared. It is important to say this to an entire country to motivate us.
ReplyDeleteI think that FDR told the whole country “We have nothing to fear, except fear itself” because everyone was going through a rough time in the great depression and the people needed some reassurance. As his first speech as president it was a good thing to say and it is very deep and meaningful. I think that it means that you really don’t have anything to fear, except fear. Like if fear was a person and fear just moved to town, before fear was there you felt fine, but now that he is here, you are scared of fear and fear has taken over your life because you can’t stop thinking about fear, but it really does not matter about fear. Sometimes, you have the power to ignore fear.
ReplyDeleteFranklin. D Roosevelt was a very great president he helped us stop the depression. When he was doing his Inaugural he said one of his famous line which was “We Have Nothing To Fear, But its self “That was his famous line. I think it means that you shouldn’t be afraid, but you can do something that can make you scared. I think he said this line because he wanted to keep it safe and not make a huge change.
ReplyDeleteI think he means that no one should be afraid of fear, it should not stop you, and especially because of what they were going on at the time. The only that can hold you back is yourself and your fear. He was trying to make everyone stronger and not fear the dreadful depression. The last president didn’t really know what to do he was not as much help as Franklin Delano Roosevelt was, but Franklin wanted to step in and create a brave and sturdy community, and not have everyone worry about these frightful things happening. And just think about a new beginning.
ReplyDeleteI think that Franklin D. Roosevelt’s statement, ”We have nothing to fear but fear itself”, means that people should be afraid of being afraid. It means that people shouldn’t be scared if they have no jobs or if they’re running low on money because Franklin Roosevelt saved the U.S. from the Great Depression. I think that it was an important thing to say at that time because lots of people were scared and did not know what to do. The way that Franklin Roosevelt helped this world will hopefully never be forgotten.

ReplyDeleteI think the quote means that they don’t have to fear anything in the Great Depression; they will have to stay strong. I also think it means if we don’t fear The Great Depression and stay positive it will end sooner. I think the quote is important because it helps people believe that the Great Depression would end and it motivates them to try to stop it.
We have nothing to fear but fear its self means I can help you through your problems, but I can’t prevent fear. It is important to say this to the county because they were in a bad time and if they feared everything they would fall apart more than they had already had.

I think this quote means that when people are scared, they are not in a good state of mind to be running the country when things are so tense. There are many things you could be scared of during a time like the great depression such as losing you job meaning you cannot support your family, or have money to buy important things like food. It would be important to say this to an entire country because in such rough time, to know that there would be someone to help them through this time would probably be the best thing for these people going through this.
I think that Franklin D. Roosevelt’s quote “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself” meant that you don’t have to be afraid of your fears just the thought of fear. You wouldn’t be afraid of a roller-coaster you would be afraid of the fear inside of you more than the roller-coaster. I think that he told the whole country because he wanted the people to feel safe and not to fear anything while he was president. He didn’t want them to be afraid of him.
ReplyDeleteI think the phrase, "We have nothing to fear but fear itself" means that the only thing you have to worry about is being worried. if you didn't know, fear is a distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc., whether the threat is real or imagined; the feeling or condition of being afraid. fear is definitely something to be scared of, and thats why those powerful words were spoken.
