Through Malala's Eyes
To the Moon!
Hidden Chamber in King Tut's Tomb?
Flooding in South Carolina

  1. I liked how the Malala story had dialog it made the whole thing have a new feeling and it felt like it was fitting to suit the story. The story was very inspirational and had a lot of feeling in it. I think it is good for the Earth to have people fighting to help women get rights. The article about the moon was very exciting and awesome; to me the idea of a robot that lands on other planets is mind blowing! I am very excited for the end of 2017 because that is when the contest starts and the robots launch. I liked the King Tut story because it would be an amazing thing if they actually found Nefertiti’s tomb, it would help museums by adding new treasure to what they already have and get more people to enter the museum and see the treasure. It would also help the world learn more about the Egyptians and what their culture was like and more of their past. The last article was kind of sad and scary because many people have died or are at risk of dying because the flood made the water bad and some people are living on boats. Most people are lucky because they got rescued and transported to a safe housing shelter with clean water and is not flooding. I feel bad for all of these people for what they have to go through.

    3. I agree on all that you described especially about the South Carolina flood.

    4. I agree that robots landing on planets is mind blowing and I am also excited for the end of 2017. I can't wait to see who wins.

    5. I agree that finding Nefertiti's tomb would help museums and would also be amazing. Like your comment.

    6. I think it is cool how you used so much detail in the writing and all of the stores have all of the facts.

  2. I thought through Malala’s Eyes was very helpful because she really wants girls to go to school more than anything. It is amazing how she survived a gun shot in her head. You can tell she is very tough.
To the moon! It was about a company making this thing that will land on the Moon and give informational pictures and videos. I think that will help because that will tell us more about the moon. But I think that already has been done by other people.
I think King Tuts tomb it very valuable, and if they find more treasure it would be good. But I feel like they spend too much time looking for those things. It also too much money.
I think the article is bad because there is a big flood and people already died from it. The workers are working really hard to find people which are good. I never knew water could get so high. It is good people are indoors because then they will not get wet.

    1. I completely agree that the explorers spent way too much money on finding stuff in King Tuts Tomb.

    2. I think that you have a great opinion on all the articles but i think that finding the secretes hidden in king tuts tomb is important to find more about of

  3. I think that it is great that Malala is speaking out about what she thinks. It is sad that she got shot because she was speaking out about a woman’s right to go to school. My opinion on the moon article is that it is good that more people are engineering. But I also think it is a bad idea because people are wasting money to build projects that may not win because there is only 1 winner. I think it is good that Revere has a theory that Queen Nefertiti’s tomb because it is a new piece in history. They have been searching for 30 years. I think it is bad that there is a flood in Carolina. I think it is caused by global warming because the water level is rising. 9 people have died already.

    2. I agree about the moon thing that it is a waste of money. But it really can help if we get informational footage.

    3. I agree that they waste to much time and money doing something they are not 100% of winning.

    4. I defiantly think the people are spending way to much money to build a thing that might not even win

      Delete
    5. I agree I also think that the floods are caused by global warming.

    6. I agree that it must be a lot of money to build the projects even if they might not win.

  4. Malala Yousafzai had a blog about the Taliban. It is a group that does not believe young girls should go to school. She spoke out and said young girls should have an education. They tried to silence her. A gunman was on her school and shot her in the head. She survived. She won the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize and became the youngest winner in history.
A team of Israeli engineers is now one step closer to launching a new mission to the moon. If they win the competition they will receive $20 million. In order to win you must land a rover on the moon and it must travel about 1,640 feet and send high definition pictures and videos. They will launch their air craft to the moon and then launch back off the moon and land 1,640 feet away.
King Tut was an ancient Egyptian pharaoh. He ruled for ten years. They found King Tuts tomb. King Tut may have not been living alone in his tomb for all of those centuries. The tomb was designed for a Queen rather than a King.
There was a lot of rain in South Carolina, after a flood covered much of the state. Seven deaths have been blamed on the storm. It dumped more than 20 inches of rain in Columbia. A road split apart because of the rain. On a downtown intersection the water got up to the stoplights.

  5. Malala’s eyes: Malala is an amazing person. One of the most amazing things about her is that even though she got really hurt and not everyone agreed with her, she is still trying to make the world better and fair. She inspires so many people and does so many amazing things at a really young age.
To the moon: I think it is so cool that everyone wants to know more about our solar system, but inparticular, the moon. It has a group of astronauts called SpaceIL that explore and find out stuff about our moon that we didn’t know before.
King Tut may have company: King Tut became a pharaoh when he was nine years old, he ruled for ten years. He discovered Mamdun al-Damati in the 21st century--it the most important discovery.
Flooding in South Carolina: There is a flood happening in South Carolina, it is terrible because it is affecting so many people and so many things. There was rain that was over 20 inches deep.

  6. Malala
I think it is cool that Malala made this to blog help kids younger than her and older than her. She knew she wanted to go to school and wanted the girls to help her beat the guards that don’t let her go to school.
    King tut
I think it is scary he has been died in gold for over 3,300 years age. He was the king at the age of 10 years old! In 1922 Carter found Tut it is weird that it took 3,300 years to find him.

    South Carolina flood
It is sad that 7 people died from flooding and people lost their lives. There should be a group to help them. There houses will loses a lot of things money, paint, doors, windows, TV, and IPad. They have nothing now.

It is cool and sad what happened on all of these things all all of these people took their chance and made it a different world.

  7. The article about Malala was about a girl who stood up for women’s rights, but was shot and luckily survived. I think that Malala deserved the Noble Peace Prize and that everyone should know about what she has done. I found the article about the moon very interesting because my mom manages UCLA’s connection to the Xprize foundation. It’s cool that so many rovers are on the moon and about 100 years ago, no one even got close to the moon. The article about the secret chamber in King Tuts tomb was also very interesting but I don’t think that Nefertiti was buried in the same tomb as King Tut. Nicholas Reeves was smart to think that, but I think that Egyptians honored their kings and queens and would’ve made separate tombs for them. The article on the flood in South Carolina was crazy! I can’t believe that it flooded almost as high as street lights. It would be good and bad at the same time if it flooded in California because of the drought. I thought that these articles were very informative and I will definitely tell my mom or dad one thing I learned.

  8. I think that all the articles were fascinating I personally was inspired and moved by Through Malala’s eyes. The article is about a young woman who is fighting for women rights in Pakistan while the terrorists where invading there country. She believed that she could make a change for women who were treated unfairly and didn’t have a voice to say what they wanted to say. Malala fought for her people so hard until this turned out right. Although she had a few bumps along the road she conquered through it. Now Malala has a noble peace prize and a documentary that just came out. She is a true hero and an inspiration to me.
To the moon! This article is about a competition held by google and the prize is $20million. Two Israeli engineers are a step closer to wining the prize. The competition is when you need to launch a land rover up to the moon and it has to cover 1,640 feet while sending videos back to earth. Other countries are competing such as Canada, Chile, Germany, Hungary, India, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, and the United States. I think the article was nice but I feel like this has all been done before going to the moon bring footage and moon goodies back.
Hidden chamber in King Tuts tomb was mind blowing to me. Archeologists found some remains of Nefertiti in King Tuts tomb. Nefertiti died ten years before King Tut. They say that the tomb was made for a queen rather than a king. They don’t know if this is true but they haven’t found Nefertiti’s tomb yet so we don’t know how this is going to turn out. I am so excited to hear what happens next and how this story will unfold.
Flooding in South Carolina is a very serious and scary cause. People’s homes, Possession’s, Family and more are all in danger and they have a good chance that they will get ruined. I hate hearing about floods, hurricanes, and tornados because if I was in their position I probably wouldn’t make it. There is over 20 inches of rain flooding the streets. Kids are rushed to the hospitals in danger. It’s terrible. I just wish all the floods and things that put families in danger will just stop no matter what it takes.
In all I thought most of the articles were fascinating I can’t wait to do this activity and learn way more about what is currently going on in our world today.

  9. The story about Malala is so cool. She is a big inspiration to girls everywhere. She shows us to stand up to people and be confident no matter what. She believed in the fact that girls should go to school. I think it is cool that are making a movie about it. The second article I found awesome. I so wish that I could go to the moon and win 20 million dollars. This might be the beginning of something that we didn’t know and change astronomy forever. The third article was a lot shorter than the first and second. It is cool to think that there may be another person in King Tut’s pyramid. I wonder if his death was sabotaged. I’d like to learn more. The fourth article was also cool but scary. They got 20 inches of rain that’s crazy. My personal favorite was the one about the moon because the fact that a robot landing on the moon is so AWESOME!

  10. Through Malala’s eyes. It is very sad that about 66 million girls are not in school. It is very amazing that Malala was only 11 years old when was she started blogging and by 15 years old in danger. Malala is very amazing and she is standing up for what she believes in. This story is very inspiring. It very sad that that is how hard she has to work to stand up and say what is true. I hope nothing else will happen to her. The moon. It is amazing that only Russia, The United States, and China have landed on the moon maybe someday there will be flights you can take to the moon. It is so fast for the rover to drive at 1,640 that is really special for a vehicle that fast It is real. King tut may have company. It is really amazing that they know he was actually king for 10 years ill his death. It is really cool that it has been 93 years after the discovery of king tut. Maybe one day they will find a lot more tombs. Ancient history is really fun to learn about. Flooding in South Carolina. It is very sad that there is floods that can destroy people’s homes. It is also sad that people could still be trapped in their homes. I can’t believe it is a state emergency for South Carolina. This very terrible to happen. I think nothing this bad should have ever happened.

  11. The Malala article is telling the story of a girl who wanted to go to school. She was told she couldn’t but she tried anyway. She then got shot in the head and survived. She won the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize and there is now a documentary about her. In the article you can read a short interview with the director where he talks about why he made the movie. I really want to see the movie. Will Malala’s story ever be taught in schools (I think it should)? Will Malala inspire other girls to stand up even if they might get hurt? I love her story.
The to the moon article is about the XPRIZE competition where people have to send a non-maned rocket to the moon and send back high definition video and pictures. The point of the competition is to not only get a rover on the moon but to show that anyone can be an inventor. It said that Chanda Gonzales said she wanted to show that anyone could build it in your garage or at your university. I think it was cool though I don’t see how you could build a moon rover in your garage. How will this help us with the advancement of science?
I really liked the article about there might be a secret chamber in King Tut’s tomb. I don’t know much about Egypt but after reading the article I would like to know more about King Tut. The article was about how King Tut might have been buried in a chamber attached to Queen Nefertiti. His possible step mother. They plan to not break down anything and use modern technology to look through the walls. What if anything will they find when they look behind the walls?
The article about flooding in South Carolina was very interesting. It’s weird how we can be complaining about being in a big drought and then we read about something like this, where the streets are full of water! It’s kind of scary thinking and reading about this flooding. Some places get so much water from a hurricane that you have to hope that you have a boat, your friend has a boat, or someone finds and gets to you before your house and the streets are too full of water. How long will it take for them to get the streets fixed and get rid of the water?

  12. I think the article about Malala was very interesting. I think she is a very strong and brave person to stand up for the women who were not able to get education and were treated unfairly. I feel very bad for Malala that she was shot in the head. They should not harm anyone who is trying to make things better. You should treat people how they want to be treated. I think the article on “To The Moon” was fascinating. I can’t believe so many people from so many places can create life changing things. The winner gets $20 million dollars as a prize! I wish I could win $20 million dollars! I hope all the space crafts land safely. The article on King Tut Might Have Company was exciting to read. Queen Nefertiti’s body might be in the tomb with King Tut! Hopefully, they find her in there. And if so they can find treasures from the Egyptian Time. The article on “South Carolina Flooding” sounded scary. If I was in that situation I would be very scared. I am glad that the fire department helped out. I am sorry for the people who’s life’s were taken by the storm. Hurricane Joaquin was dangerous and I hope South Carolina is safe now. I love learning things about the world and I am excited to do the next Current Event!

  13. Think that Malala is brave and should have the right to say what she wants. It is also so incredible that she survived the gunshot to her head! She is inspiring to other women and girls. Through Malala’s eyes she must see the world as her own and that is amazing! I think that it is a lot of money for landing on the moon, only because it was already done. I understand that it is race and the price should be large, though it seems like a lot. But I think that it is interesting that only the United States, Russia, and china are the only ones who got to the moon so far. I think that it is weird that King Tut started ruling he was 9 and only was king was for 10 years and died. So he died at 19! It is also really interesting that Queen Nefertiti might be King Tuts stepmother. I think she might be her in the other tomb because she might be her stepmother so it is possible that they were buried together. I think that the South Carolina flood is so huge and incredible. It is just so huge and 7 deaths, that’s a lot! I just feel like there must be kids and little toddlers who have to go in kayaks and must have a lack of food because their houses are destroyed. It was 20in of water witch is a lot. We haven’t even had that much!

  14. “Through Malala’s eyes” is an outstanding story where a girl fights for girl’s education. She got shot in the head for wanting her education and amazingly survived it! She was only 11 years old. A few years later she became the youngest Nobel winner in history! “To the moon” is a story where there is a competition where the first group out of 16 to land a rover on the moon wins a prize of $20 million dollars! Israeli team is one step closer to launching a new mission to the moon. The other teams are from groups and private companies from Brazil, Canada, Chile, Germany, Hungary, India, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, and the United States. In “Hidden chamber in King Tut’s tomb” a British Egyptologist named Nicholas Reeves, recently found out that some parts of the structure of King Tut’s tomb point to the existence of a hidden chamber behind it. He also said it originally been made for a queen. In “Flooding in South Carolina” a flood threatened the drinking water supply for South Carolina’s capital city. Columbia officials told 375,000 of its water customers to boil their water before drinking it. Also, people might not have drinkable water for days.
“Through Malala’s Eyes” is my favorite because she wanted everyone (especially girls) to have an education. She was shot in the head and survived, and she got a Nobel Peace Prize!

  15. Through the Eyes of Malala
It is super cool that Malala stood up for girls and women all around the world. I wish they mentioned more, in the article, about how she stood up for girls, because that could give people an idea of how to do something like Malala. It is amazing that Malala won the noble peace prize and she is the youngest person to ever win that prize so far. By Malala winning that that gives people more of a boost of encouragement no matter your age, you can do anything.
    To the Moon
I can’t believe that people are making space crafts… and sending them to the moon. I would have never thought anyone would hold a contest that goes into space! If people are sending up space crafts into space, taking pictures, coming back and judging the contest winner on how the picture were… think of all the other things we could do!
Hidden Chamber in King Tuts Tomb?
I am going back and forth about Nefertiti being buried in a hidden chamber in Tut’s tomb. I believe it because it was a long time ago and that Tut could have been buried in her tomb. But it could also be wrong because it was a long time ago and people could be wrong.
    Flooding in South Carolina
That is super scary! I mean water as high as street lights and cars flooding under water, to me that’s scary. I can’t believe that kind of storm only happens once in a thousand years! If I was in the storm I would freak out! According to the national weather service said that Sunday was the wettest day in Columbia! That’s something California will never have! Seven people have died from the storm and people are going door-to-door to see if people are okay it’s crazy that people will have to go without drinkable water for days!

  16. The article Through Malala’s Eyes is about Malala standing up against the Taliban. The Taliban is a group of people who think women shouldn’t go to school. Malala was brave to stand up against them, but in doing that, she was shot, but miraculously survived. Now she is a symbol of hope and the youngest person to win the Noble Peace Prize.
The article To the Moon is about Israeli engineers in a competition with fifteen other teams. The competition is you need to send a rover to the moon and make it travel 1,640 feet and will send back high definition video and pictures. The winner of the contest will win twenty million dollars.
The article King Tut May Have Company is about how people might have found a new room in King Tuts tomb. People think the room might belong to King Tut's wife Nefertiti. Other people discovered that parts of the tomb look like it was built for a queen and not for a king.
The article Flooding in South Carolina is about major flooding. The storm dumped more than twenty inches of rain. Emergency workers are going from house to house to see if anyone is trapped in their homes. A flood like that only happens every one thousand years.
My favorite article is Through Malala’s Eyes because shows that people can make a difference in many things and it tells you that people can be really mean and will do crazy things to get what they want.

  17. I think all of these current events are crazy! "Through Malala's Eyes". Malala wanted to let girls to school so she fought the Taliban group. The Taliban group thinks that girls shouldn't go to school. when she was fighting she got shot in the head and survived its amazing. The next one is "To The Moon" A group of people named the spaceIL in Israeli are planning a mission to the moon. they say that spaceIL will launch at the end of 2017. The next one is "A Secret Chamber In King Tuts Tomb". King Tut started to rule when he was nine but he died in 1922 they say that the secret chamber was where the Queen died It was also more for the queen. The next one is "The Flooding in Carolina" Groups have been looking into each house for people who are stuck from the flood. 20 inches of rain has dropped every second. Governor Nikki said that these types of floods only happen every thousand of years. it has killed 7 people. Those are all of the current events. My favorite is the flood in Carolina.

  18. Through Malala’s eyes is a great empowering story and it’s amazing that she got shot in the head and survived. It’s incredible that she is 18 years old and the youngest person in history to win a noble peace prize. She got her message out by starting a blog about the Taliban tribe when she was only 11 years old. I think she is an amazing person. In the moon article I think it’s a really good idea and it’s crazy that the winner will get 20 million dollars. I also didn’t know that only three countries have made it to the moon. I think this contest is really unique. In the article of hidden chamber in king Tuts tomb I think it’s really interesting that Queen Nefertiti might also be in king tuts tomb and their might be treasures inside. I think it would be really interesting if Queen Nefertiti was also buried there too because they would find more treasures and jewels that she was buried with. The article about the flooding in South Carolina is so scary because so far there is 20 inches of rain and more coming. I think it’s unbelievable that some people in South Carolina don’t have clean drinking water or any power because the storm is so strong and broke them. I think this so tragic that people have to move out of their home because it’s being destroyed by the storm.

  19. I think that it is important to have this museum mostly because people need to know what they’ve done or they need to know there heritage. It’s extremely impressive to see that this man has spent 8 million dollars for people to know this and I think it’s great. This museum helps people not only learn from others mistakes but helps people realize what it was to live and be in the 17th to 18th century.
I think it is important for people to walk in the shoes of their ancestor’s because you need to know your history. I think it is important to understand this experience mostly because you have to know how to correct it in the future and stop racial discrimination for good. The Whitney museum shouldn’t be the only slavery museum but it helps us understand who our ancestors are and that’s important.
